1st BMLS Career & Alumni Day
June 2019. Our 1st BMLS Career & Alumni day, organized by the representatives of the PhD students and postdocs, took place on 26 June 2019. In the morning, members of the BMLS and FIAS research groups came together to join a job application workshop. This was followed by individual CV coaching sessions in the afternoon. Both sessions were led by the professional career coach Andrew Cerniski from Heidelberg.
After these coaching sessions 30 PhD students and postdocs participated in a round table discussion with former members of the BMLS. This alumni session was opened by BMLS director Enrico Schleiff. The group explored possible future career paths. The five alumni who participated were Alexander Schmitt and Sabine Fischer formerly from the Stelzer group, Harald Hofbauer from the Ernst group, Lutz Franzen from the Windbergs group, and Aycan Senturk Andersson and Florian Cop from the Acker-Palmer group. They presented different career options in research and industry and provided very informative insights regarding personal motivation and life-work balance.
The event was rounded off in the evening with a BBQ outdoors in the BMLS yard, further promoting interdisciplinary exchange. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet former colleagues and were inspired about what the future may offer.
