3R-professor Maike Windbergs receives international research award

March 2018. Maike Windbergs, professor for Pharmaceutical Technology in Frankfurt, received the “Research Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Pharmaceutical Sciences 2018” from the International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology (APV) for her excellent research in the field of design and preclinical testing of novel medicines. Since February 2017, Maike Windbergs is a professor for Pharmaceutical Technology at Goethe University and research group leader of the “Drug Delivery and 3R-Models” group at the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences. Besides innovative formulation approaches, one of her research foci is based on the development of complex three-dimensional in vitro tissue models for preclinical testing of novel drugs as alternative to animal testing. The award was presented in a ceremony during the international World Meeting on Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology on the 20th of April 2018 in Granada, Spain.

Every two years, the International Association for Pharmaceutical Technology awards with the Research Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Pharmaceutical Sciences (donated by the company F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG) a scientist, whose scientific results fulfil the quality criteria “Novelty” (innovative novel concepts), “Depth” (outstanding results) and “Work Value & Impact” (influence on the research field).
